Sudan’s Finance Minister stresses the importance for the country and South Sudan to concert moves to urge donor countries to waive part of the debts

Khartoum-Sudan’s Finance Minister, Ali Mahmoud, has stressed the importance for his country and South Sudan to concert moves to urge donor countries to waive part of the debts so that Sudan is able to get long term credits, pointing out that the two countries need to move with Paris Group, hold bilateral meetings to handle the debts.

On the sidelines of the meetings of the International Bank in Washington, Mahmoud said that the technical committee on writing of Sudan’s foreign debts hailed progress made in relations between Sudan South Sudan; besides technical conditions that Sudan has to satisfy to waive its debts; in addition to pointing to President Al Bashir’s visit to Juba, Doha conference on reconstruction in Darfur and signing agreement with Justice and Equality Movement group in Doha.

Sudan’s minister said these efforts coupled with the government’s economic efforts in addition to political efforts will lead waiving Sudan’s foreign debts, indicating that Sudanese delegation will meet the US Treasury to know their positions on waiving the debts.
