
Khartoum-Sudan’s opposition National Umma Party (NUP) has demanded Government to declare the country “disasters area" due to the floods and rains that swept across nine States, launching scathing criticism against the official’s statements that played down the scale of the disaster and its consequences in the affected areas.
At a press conference he held on Tuesday, the chairman of party, Al-Sadiq al-Mahdi, called on the Government to conduct technical investigation to determine who is the responsible for defects that caused the disaster, pointing out that government has dealt with disaster improperly, calling on Government to learn from experience of management of his Government for the torrents and rains in 1988.
al-Mahdi urged the government to form a high national mechanism with extraordinary powers for address the problem, adding that the Government must put an end to the cold war with civil society organizations And international relief organizations, in addition to reform of Sudanese foreign policy to attract the required support and get out the country from its isolation, indicating that the aid of the State of Qatar is not enough.
