Qatar builds voluntary return villages in Sudan at a cost of $ (33) million

Doha-Qatari Red Crescent oversees the construction of the voluntary return village’s project in Sudan since 7 months; in collaboration with a number of Qatari charities such as Sheikh Eid bin Mohammed Al Thani charitable foundation, Sheikh Thani Bin Abdulla Al Thani for humanitarian services and Qatar Charitable Society, according to Doha-based Al-Sharq newspaper daily. 

A source told the paper that the financing of the project amounted to $ (33) million from the Qatari government, with the aim of building a set of voluntary return villages in Darfur region, where the project will include a service centre for servicing of about 30,000 people, and 5 centers will be built in north, centre, east, south, and west Darfur.

The source pointed out that the first stage has finished almost and it would be evaluated to identify its weaknesses and advantages to the next phases.

The source disclosed that the cost of the service centre reaches to $ (6) million, where the center includes health center, social center, a school, a mosque, wells, and security management service centre.

 It is expected that the opening of the first Center service will be in the next October.

For his part, Sudan’s Commissioner-General for aid and humanitarian relief, Dr. Suleiman Abdul Rahman, praised the Qatar’s role in establishing security and stability and peace in Sudan and its positive contribution in humanitarian support and relief in the country, noting that Qatar made a lot of contributions across many channels whether directly from the Government or from some charities as Qatar Red Crescent
