New York- United Nations (UN)expressed on Wednesday its concerns about human rights violations in South Sudan, despite the continued efforts of Juba’s Government to protect civilians from violence and human rights violations.

In a report published on U.N official website, the United Nations Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights, Flavia Pansieri, said that some violations are being committed by Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) the military, pointing out that the situation is bad, particularly in Jonglei State in the northeast of the country.

"The weakness of the judicial system in the country had led to serious human rights violations, such as lengthy pre-trial detention and conditions of detention."Pansieriadded.

She went on to say that lack of capacity and inadequate training of police, prosecutors, and judges led to committing of  numerous human rights violations in law enforcement.

The report highlighted the daunting challenges facing Republic of South Sudan as a new State, including the legacy of conflict and underdevelopment, indicating a number of factors which have had a serious impact on the human rights situation, particularly the ongoing political tensions with neighboring Sudan, as well as internal conflicts and ethnic tensions, which severely undermined efforts to build the State institutions.
