Egypt signs (3) project contracts in South Sudan

Cairo-Egypt’s Minister of Water Resourcesand Irrigation, Dr. Mohamed Baha'aEl Din, has stressed that his country continued to provide assistance and support to the people of South Sudan despite the difficult conditions in Egypt now

 During a ceremony for the signing of (3) contracts for three projects in South Sudan with the Arab contractors company worth $ 7.2 million, Baha'aEl Din said that   water must be a source of cooperation and benefits for all Nile basin countries and not source of friction and conflict, pointing out that the three projects include establishment of river anchorage  in the city of Bentiu to link the capital of Unity State to the State of Western Bahr al-Ghazal for navigation purposes, rehabilitation of (3) stations to measure levels of Bahr el-Ghazal river,  in addition to set up pumping stations in Wau, the capital of West Bahr al-Ghazal.

For his part, South Sudan's Ambassador in Egypt, Antony Kon, stressed that intention of his country to ratify Entebbe Agreement because it believes that teamwork is very important and benefits the peoples of the Nile basin countries, adding that if there is no collective action there will be individual acts could harm the interests of other States.

Kon confirmed that his country is not seeking to harm Egypt, but it seeks to narrow the differences to kick off the Nile Basin Initiative founded by Egypt to achieve its goals.
