A quick glance at the map of the once Africa's largest country in land size shows that one third of its landmass and a quarter of its population broke away forming a new country under the name of south Sudan. Another third is a rebel-controlled area. The remaining third is controlled by a regime which claims to be the legitimate government born of free and fair elections which, unfortunately, did not represent a creditable expression of the will of the people of Sudan who boycotted the process for being neither free nor fair but a state-sponsored falsification of the fundamental idea of free and autonomous choice. and the proof of the 2010 elections being unfair is that all the wining candidates were those who staged the coup and overthrew the democratically-elected government in 1989 who are still in power amid well-founded fears that any electoral process under their regime will not change anything.{for instance the regime prohibits membership of workers trade-unions and associations for non-partisans of the ruling national congress party NCP?????????}Another likely point of conflict is the participation in the proposed elections of those who fled the inextinguishable civil wars and live in refugee camps in exile, the IDPs, those in rebel-held areas and the rebels themselves??? So, to be quite frank the regime should climb out of its cocoon of self-deception and ride back from this lose-lose situation to get out of the political hot water it landed itself in. because if any fair elections were ever held the unpopular regime will definitely lose, while unfair elections will not be accepted, if at all allowed because, the process would seem out of place and as something going against the norms when compared to the revolutionized neighborhood. Therefore the regime needs to wake up from its fantasies of illogically considering itself the hub of the universe, which is a state of mind not a practical reality. And should immediately root out the hypocrite elements that shamelessly portray the indicted president as a blessing to the Sudanese NATION???????Banning them from holding public posts forever, and bringing them to account for their countless crimes which inflicted lasting damage on this country's community and economy. Because they were behind all the wrong decisions throughout their dark 24 years of absolute power, during which these opportunists were only loyal to their interests first and foremost. hence the regime should also put to rest the tarnished cliché of external threats and contemplate making some concessions , that could pave the way for national reconciliation, stability and peaceful co-existence to prevent further bloodshed and violence .then again the regime should not think that its opponents will have little choice but to go for elections designed by the same architects of 2010. Because that could compel its opponents to resort to other options to prove that the regime is not without alternative .remember….this prolonged and unbearably unjust status quo has got to be shaken and brought to an end one way or the other . Say, for instance forming abroad-based interim government of hugely respected independent experts and non-partisans technocrats, which would be a sound breakthrough and a patriotic gesture hard not to pick up to by the warring factions. Because what the regime is in bad need of now is being realistic and self-critical….not insisting to continue with the same inexperienced and corrupt elements who lied to us for over 20 years in a war-torn and dangerously polarized country, which will of course be faced by explosive reverse actions of unknown nature which could further add fuel to the already burning fire..Oh no not again, we have had enough.
