The chief executive of Abyei strongly criticized the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) for its failure to protect civilians, pointing out his administration has no the power to protect citizens and their property , indicating that the security forces had withdrawn in accordance with the Addis Ababa agreement while the other party did not withdraw its troops.
The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) is a United Nationspeacekeeping force in Abyei, which is contested between the Republic of Sudan and the newly-independent Republic of South Sudan. UNISFA was approved on 27 June 2011 by the United Nations Security Council in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1990 after a flare-up in the South Kordofan conflict earlier in June 2011.[1] The UNISFA is composed of soldiers of the Ethiopian Army only.
