
Khartoum- Agriculture Minister in Al-Gezira State, Abdullah Mohammed Osman, announced on Monday that his State has signed agreements with Saudi investors, not name them, to establish projects for the sugar industry in (8) locations in the State and planting of sugar cane in 600,000-acres area.
The Minister said that Al-Gezira State has enormous agricultural potential, especially in the field of sugar cane and beet, as well as the infrastructure of electricity and irrigation channels and roads, calling for importance of using modern irrigation techniques which reduce water consumption and cost for benefit in the new projects.
He stressed the importance of the accompanying industries such as ethanol, electricity, feed and animal husbandry, noting the importance of coordination between the Sudanese Sugar Company and Agricultural Research Authority for the implementation of proposed sugar projects.
