
Khartoum-Many Sudanese water experts have stressed that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) will derive Sudan to take advantage of additional water resources lie behind the dam, stressing that Sudan’s participation in the Tripartite Commission does not mean approval for construction of the dam.
In statements aired by Al-Shirouq Channel T.V on Monday, member of the Sudanese Negotiating Committee and the international water expert, Dr. Ahmed Al-Mufti, said that Sudan must oppose any step in the implementation of the dam, calling for giving Sudan and Egypt a further six months to negotiate and reach results, pointing out that construction of the dam breaches the water security.
Sudan’s Foreign Ministry denied statements attributed to the Sudanese ambassador in Cairo, Kamal Hassan Ali, in which he expressed Sudan’s rejection of the dam’s construction.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Abu Bakr Al-Siddig, said on Wednesday that Sudan’s ambassador to Cairo didn’t describe the Ethiopian move to change the course of the river Nile as "shocking", denying reports that Sudan and Egypt would resort to the Arab League
Al-Mufti said that the diversion of the river courses without notification is not cooperated by Ethiopia, which has to notify in written notification which confirms that the dam will not impose any water security on Sudan and Egypt
For his part, , The former Director of Waters in Sudanese Ministry of Irrigation Water, Haidar Youssef, warned of choosing an Israeli company to implement the project, adding: "We are face to face with our Israeli enemy."
