
Khartoum-Sudan’s Ministry of Agriculture signed with its Egyptian counterpart on Monday A Co-operation Agreement in the field of biological control, especially "hyacinth", which causes the loss of massive amounts of water due to evaporation and the closure of waterways to impede operation of water and river navigation and then eliminating fisheries.
Through this agreement, the Egyptian side has signed a contract with French Geography Institute (INGNFI) to use the French satellite (Spot 5) to identify areas affected by “hyacinth”.
The Egyptian side will also establish a greenhouse for aquatic weeds in the Sudan concerning the breeding of the insect used to fight the hyacinth
The programme also includes training of a number of Sudanese engineers and agricultural experts in the Agricultural Research Centre in Cairo on this technique in combat "hyacinth".
The Director General of Plant Protection in the Ministry of Irrigation and Agriculture, Mr. Khadr Jibril Musa, signed on behalf of the Sudanese side and the head of the Research Centre for the Biological Control in Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Yahya Hussein Al-Fayadh, signed on behalf the Egyptian side.
